Why should I pay for hostingGenerally, if you don't need the functionality and programming features, that come with a paid hosting account, i.e. cgi, php, asp, *sql etc., you could get by using your Dialup ISP assigned Web space. While this would mean having a longer, ISP assigned, URL (www.username.ispname.com) you could, if you own a domain name, make use of simple Web forwarding, provided free of charge by many domain registrars. The most common variants of Web forwarding are basic re-direction and masked, or framed, forwarding. Re-direction works by invisibly forwarding the visitor from www.yourdomain.com to your Web site at www.username.ispname.com, the downside being your long ISP assigned URL will show in the browser address window. Masked, or framed, forwarding works on the same principle, except the forwarding page contains a "frameset" into which your web site is loaded. This leaves your domain name (www.yourdomain.com) in the browser address window. Finally... Back to the start! |
